This Eye Cream Does the Most — Without the Slightest Bit of Irritation

I love the idea of an eye cream, but this product and I have a bit of a shaky relationship.

Due to my eczema-prone eye area, I have to be extra careful what formulas I use. Super gentle ingredients are the name of the game for me, which means retinoids are usually a no-go. However, Sunday Riley's latest launch has completely switched things around for me and my under-eye area.

The new 5 Stars Retinoid + Niacinamide Eye Serum really does live up to its name, so I asked Sunday Riley herself how she did it.

"5 Stars is powered by ceramides to protect and maintain natural hydration, asiatic acid, madecosside, and asiaticodise to help to support natural collagen synthesis while also being extremely soothing to the skin," she shares with InStyle. "These powerful ingredients are balanced by red poppy seed oil, olive oil, and daisy extract which simultaneously aid in decreasing the look of dark circles, supporting the moisture barrier, and improving the look of discolorations while naturally brightening the complexion."

I don't have dark circles under my eyes, so I can't personally speak to that perk. However, my eye area feels soft and nourished despite the retinoid complex found in the formula.

"5 Stars uses a 6% retinoid complex — 5% retinoid ester, 1% liposome encapsulated retinol blend)," Riley shares. "The retinoid ester is a type of retinoid that is just as strong as 100% retinol, but 90% less irritating making it perfect for the eye area. The liposome encapsulated retinol blend time releases the retinoid into the skin, which gives you the benefits of retinol without the irritating side effects."

And that explains it.

To use, simply begin by washing your face with a gentle cleanser, then pat on your under-eye area and let the serum-cream work its magic. Over time, you'll be sure to notice its 5-star results (pun intended) — promise.
