  • The Morpheus8 skin tightening treatment is gaining traction thanks to a few celebrity endorsements.
  • Stars like Kim Kardashian and Jessica Simpson have praised the results from their procedures.
  • Here’s what to know about Morpheus8, from how it works to how much it costs.

You are probably well aware that celebrities have access to the top body tightening and toning treatments out there. The question is: which ones have they tried, and do they actually work? More A-listers have opened up about the work they’ve had done — from plastic surgery to less invasive treatments, like Botox or filler — but there’s been one procedure we’ve been hearing about a lot lately, and it’s called Morpheus8.

Earlier this month, Kim Kardashian shared an Instagram story of herself undergoing a Morpheus8 treatment, calling it a “game changer.” Jessica Simpson has also praised the treatment for being her “saving grace” when it came to tightening up her skin. What exactly is Morpheus8, though, and why is it getting so much buzz? We decided to tap Sheila Nazarian, a board-certified plastic surgeon at Nazarian Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills, to answer all of our burning questions.

What Is the Morpheus8 Treatment?

“Morpheus8 is a fractional skin treatment that stimulates collagen production of the underlying layers of the dermis,” Dr. Nazarian tells POPSUGAR. The device combines radio frequency and microneedling to offer noninvasive skin resurfacing. “By targeting the deeper layers of the skin, tissues of the face and body can be remodeled to reveal a more radiant, youthful appearance.”

Depending on the body part you’re looking to treat, there are two different hand pieces that may be used: Morpheus8, for smaller areas like the face and neck, and Morpheus8 Body, for larger areas like the abdomen and thighs. “Morpheus8 Body is equipped with Burst Mode, which automatically deploys bipolar RF energy to multilevel treatment depths in a single cycle, allowing for a significant reduction in treatment times and minimizes skin injury,” says Dr. Nazarian.

The amount of time a session takes is dependent on the area you’re targeting, with the smaller areas requiring less time. “A face would be 15 minutes, an abdomen would be 20 minutes, and an entire thigh would be 40 minutes,” Dr. Nazarian says.

Skin Tightening Benefits of Morpheus8

The Morpheus8 treatment boasts a variety of different results (which is probably why it’s so loved by celebrities), but it’s essentially intended to tighten the skin on the face and body. Dr. Nazarian says that the treatment can “increase collagen production, minimize scars from acne, reduce wrinkles, fade stretch marks, and overall smooth, contour, and tighten the appearance of skin.” Plus, she adds that because there are micropins that are penetrating the skin, it creates microlesions that heal faster than traditional methods of skin resurfacing, which makes for little to no downtime and fast results.

While one to three sessions are recommended for the most optimal results, anyone who undergoes a Morpheus8 treatment can expect to see visible changes within a few days. Still, Dr. Nazarian says that it’s typically after three weeks when the most noticeable differences will appear. Improvements will also continue to be seen up to three months after the initial treatment.

Who Is a Candidate for the Morpheus8 Treatment?

Unlike some resurfacing treatments, Dr. Nazarian says that the benefit of Morpheus8’s color blind RF technology is that it can be used on all skin types. “The unique properties allow even darker tones to be treated. All ages benefit from Morpheus8 as well, but older skin produces less collagen and elastin and may need additional treatments when compared to younger skin.”

Is the Morpheus8 Treatment Painful?

Considering the fact that Kim Kardashian’s Instagram story of her getting the Morpheus8 procedure read, “I think this is my fave laser but it’s painful lol but worth it!” you might be wondering how much this treatment hurts. According to Dr. Nazarian, any pain you’d experience during the treatment can be lessened with numbing creams or injections.

“This is a minimally invasive treatment, and numbing cream or injections are used when applicable. With numbing cream, it is usually tolerable at moderate energies but may be slightly uncomfortable depending on your tolerance. With numbing injections, it is very well tolerated even at the highest energies.”

How Much Does a Morpheus8 Treatment Cost?

While the cost of the treatment varies depending on the area of the body you want to have treated and the provider you visit, you can expect to spend anywhere between $500 and $1,200 per treatment. Again, it’s recommended that you undergo between one and five sessions for best results.

Side Effects of a Morpheus8 Treatment

Typically, side effects seen after undergoing a Morpheus8 treatment are mild and abate quickly. However, you may experience some redness, swelling, or tiny scabs at the treatment location. Some people experience redness at the location of the treated area for up to five days. In rare cases, people have experienced bleeding, hyperpigmentation, or infection.
