Tomasz Schafernaker looked unrecognisable after he finally cut off his long locks. The BBC Breakfast weatherman had grown out his hair during lockdown and had refused to get it cut even when the barbershop reopened in April.

Viewers had previously mocked his look as they likened it to a cross between “ABBA and a 1970s porn star”.

Even retired weatherman Bill Giles and presenter Ulrika Jonsson have laughed at his crop.

The 42-year-old, who was voted Britain’s favourite meteorologist four years ago, has made the decision to get rid of his long tresses – much to his followers’ surprise.

In view of his 83,000 followers, Tomasz shared a photo of his new look.

He penned: “I fancied another change… the 70s are gone.”

In the candid snap, the Polish-born meteorologist showcased a side profile of his face.

The sides of his hair had been shaved off leaving a short crop at the top of his head.

Social media users flocked to comment on the post, as he racked up thousands of likes.

His former co-star and GB News presenter Simon McCoy tweeted: “Hoorah!”

A Twitter user penned: “How you choose to appear is obviously your personal choice. I liked the longer hair. But I like the new look too. I guess you just look good whichever way you choose.”

Another quipped: “To each their own and all that, but I’m glad to see the back of the 70s porn star. (Maybe that came out wrong).”

“Good bye shaggy! Hello what shall we call this one? City boy? Boy band? Or just a blocky haircut? Looking good Mr Schafernaker,” a third remarked.

A fourth penned: “I loved your long hair, but this is style really suits you.”

Tomasz also shared two images via his Instagram account as he unveiled his latest transformation.

One snap showed an image of the weather presenter with his longer hair alongside a snap of Bee Gees bandmate Barry Gibb.

The second photo showed off his new look, which he captioned: “Now”.

Tomasz was previously asked what he had planned to do with his hair now that barbers have reopened.

He replied: “Keeping – it’ll need a little styling but that’s it.”

Tomasz then added: “My choice.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am.
