AceShowbizCristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez have suffered a great loss. The soccer superstar and his girlfriend were left “devastated” after one of their twin babies passed away during the childbirth.

Making use of Instagram on Monday, April 18, the 36-year-old athlete shared the heartbreaking news. In a statement signed by him and his model girlfriend, they wrote, “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away.”

“It is the greatest pain that any parent can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness,” the couple continued. They went on to thank the doctors and nurses “for all their expert care and support.”

Cristiano and Georgina further stressed, “We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time.” The athlete and the 27-year-old model then concluded the statement as saying, “Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”

In the wake of the tragic passing, Cristiano’s older sister Katia Aveiro posted an emotional message to support her sibling during the difficult time. “I love you and my heart is all there on this side…” the singer wrote in the caption, which was translated from Portuguese, of a photo of her brother and his partner with their kids.

“May God take care of everything and strengthen your path more and more…Our little angel is already on her father’s lap,” Katia continued, referencing their father Jose Dinis Aveiro who died at 52 years old in 2005. “And our little girl who is here firm and strong and full of health will teach us more and more that only love matters…[red heart emoji].”

At the time, the Manchester United player, who is also a dad to 4-year-old twins Eva Maria and Mateo as well as 11-year-old son Cristiano Jr., shared the exciting news with a snapshot of them holding up ultrasound shots of the babies. “Delighted to announce we are expecting twins. Our hearts are full of love – we can’t wait to meet you,” he wrote in the note accompanying the picture.
