Emmerdales Lisa Riley on how she acts drunk years after going sober

She quit booze seven years ago, after previously admitting she used to self-medicate with alcohol and Emmerdale actress Lisa Riley has revealed she still 'acts drunk'.

The star – who plays Mandy Dingle in the ITV1 soap – said: "I can still act drunk! We use grape juice for red wine and it’s horrendous.

She added: "It also gives you a breath of death – not good for snogging scenes!"

Last November, Lisa described her life as "so much better" without alcohol and says she’s "chamomile tea all the way".

She revealed: "I still don’t drink alcohol. When mum passed away, I overdid it and I played a game with myself and I won so I kept going. My life is so much better without it.

"I live vicariously through Mandy, but I’m chamomile tea all the way!"

In the past, the 46-year-old has opened up opened up about using alcohol as a "comfort blanket”.

She also explained her house was left a mess and being drunk robbed her of time with her late mum.

Lisa revealed she frequently threw alcohol-fuelled parties with an "endless supply" of booze at her home.

She said: "I remember thinking to myself, 'Why does everybody come back to my house?'" the Emmerdale star said. "Well, because there was a bar. There was an endless supply of drink."

Lisa added that she often recalled waking up from drunken evenings and thinking: "Look at the state of my house! It looks like a squat!"

Lisa has vowed she will "never drink again", after "looking in the mirror" and realising she wasn't herself one day.

She said: "It's when you look in the mirror and you go, 'I look a little bit crappy, I don't look like myself’".

Lisa went on to add that she later blamed that period for taking precious time away from seeing her mum before she sadly died.

"I blame that party time of where I was always hungover the next day, where I wasn't myself, as hours I could've gained when mum was alive."

Lisa's mum tragically passed away from cancer in 2012, leaving Lisa to rely more and more on alcohol for escapism as she struggled to cope.

"The wine took the edge off – it truly, truly did," she explained. "I was a bit of a grey cloud, because I wasn't happy in myself."

She also described her life as "pretend" and "unhappy" before making the brave decision to give up alcohol in 2016.
