Jason Sudeikis Is Addressing His Split from Olivia Wilde for the First Time

Jason Sudeikis is speaking out regarding his breakup with his former fiancée, Olivia Wilde.

In a new cover story for GQ, the Ted Lasso star addressed the pop culture news story the world hasn’t stopped talking about: his November 2020 split from actress and director Wilde, and her new romance with one of the world’s most eligible bachelors at the time, musician Harry Styles. Sudeikis and Wilde had been together for nine years and share two children together, daughter Daisy Sudeikis and son Otis Sudeikis.

“I’ll have a better understanding of why [we split] in a year,” Sudeikis told GQ. “And an even better one in two, and an even greater one in five, and it’ll go from being, you know, a book of my life to becoming a chapter to a paragraph to a line to a word to a doodle.”

Sudeikis referred to the experience of seeing Wilde move on so quickly as something you “either learn from or make excuses about.”

The actor continued, “You take some responsibility for it, hold yourself accountable for what you do, but then also endeavor to learn something beyond the obvious from it.”

Sudeikis also clarified that his viral, virtual Golden Globes acceptance speech—which he gave while wearing an ultra-casual tie-dye hoodie—wasn’t a sign of him being heartbroken or defeated like the Internet assumed he would be.

“I was neither high nor heartbroken,” the actor said. “I wore that hoodie because I didn’t wanna fucking wear the fucking top half of a Tom Ford suit. I love Tom Ford suits. But it felt weird as shit.”
