Jesy Nelson to take 'extended time off from Little Mix due to medical reasons'

Jesy Nelson is taking ‘extended time off’ from her commitments with Little Mix due to medical reasons.

The singer, 29, was recently forced to pull out of hosting the MTV European Music Awards with her bandmates – Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock – and was a no-show during the final episode of the girlband’s talent show The Search on BBC One.

At the time, a rep for Jesy explained she was unwell and it has now been confirmed that the star will be taking an extended period off.

A spokesperson for Little Mix shared a statement via Twitter that read: ‘Jesy is having extended time off from Little Mix for private medical reasons.’

It continued: ‘We will not be issuing any further comment currently and ask media to please respect her privacy at this time.’

Jesy hasn’t addressed the reports on social media. She last shared a Halloween-inspired selfie to her Instagram page of her all dressed up in costume at the end of October.

News of her extended period away from the band comes after fans missed Jesy during the grand finale of The Search that aired on Saturday November 7.

A statement released at the time read: ‘Jesy is unwell and will not be appearing on tonight’s final of Little Mix The Search. She will also not be hosting or performing at tomorrow’s MTV EMAs.’

Little Mix had also addressed Jesy’s absence ahead of the show airing, as they took to Twitter to share their excitement over the final.

The tweet, posted by the girls, read: ‘Can you believe tonight’s the FINAL of @LMTheSearch!! We’re unbelievably proud of all 6 bands and we can’t wait to see the final 4 perform!’

‘We’re so sad Jesy won’t be able to join us tonight,’ it continued. ‘But we have such an amazing show in store for you all x.’

Jesy didn’t appear on the show at all – unlike Jade who had joined via video link for the first live show of the series when she was forced to self-isolate.

The final saw band Since September crowned the winners and they will now join Little Mix on their Confetti tour in 2021.

Jesy’s absence comes as Little Mix have just released their sixth studio album Confetti, which features their new tracks Holiday, Happiness and Sweet Melody.

Metro.co.uk has reached out to a spokesperson for Little Mix for comment.
