Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway, 53, broke her social media silence on Instagram after her friend and Sky News anchor Sarah-Jane Mee announced the birth of her baby daughter yesterday. The ITV broadcaster was one of the first to comment on the news.

Taking to Instagram, Sarah-Jane shared a sweet black and white photo of her bundle of joy, sporting a baby grow with the slogan “Breaking news, baby Richard has arrived”.

In view of her 78,000 followers, she captioned: “Emerging from a baby bubble to share the #goodnews.

“A little girl came into our world this week and stole our hearts. I couldn’t be more in love.”

Sarah-Jane went on to say: “Already @benray79 daddy’s girl and a super cute sidekick for big brother Teddy. If you are looking for the good in 2020 it’s moments like this.”

Kate was quick to respond to the happy news, writing: “Wonderful – so pleased for you.”

Other famous faces also praised the Sky News presenter, including The One Show host Gethin Jones, who wrote: “Class little outfit – amazing little girl! Congratulations.”

Kate’s message comes after she has maintained a relatively low profile on social media in recent months.

She recently shared a touching tribute to her husband Derek Draper on Father’s Day, as well as her children’s grandfathers, Gordon and Ken.

As part of the lengthy post, she apologised to fans for not being interactive with them on Instagram and Twitter as much as she did previously.

Kate has taken a break from her regular hosting duties as her spouse remains in hospital after he fell ill with coronavirus.

In the same post, she told her 864,000 followers that she will “never give up” on her spouse, who was first admitted to hospital with coronavirus in March.

The presenter thanked her ITV colleagues for giving her the opportunity to speak about the family’s struggles but added she is “overwhelmed” by the road ahead.

“Whatever happens next I’m afraid it is going to be a long road, with an uncertain end that isn’t even nearly in sight right now,” Kate wrote.

“But this week I am refocusing on hope that as a family we are going to pull together with the support of friends and get through everything come what may.”

She continued: “I know that the amazing people keeping Derek alive, stand shoulder to shoulder with me in NEVER giving up on him and, of course, hope that my wonderful Derek is going to keep fighting this and eventually start to slowly recover.”(sic)

Derek is now coronavirus-free, however the virus has attacked other parts of his body.
