Katie Piper has reassured fans with a selfie after undergoing a successful operation for a skin graft over her right eye on Thursday.

The 37-year-old was a victim of a horrific acid attack in 2008 which left her blind in one eye and she has since had 400 surgeries to correct the damage.

Katie revealed she has been "resting and recovering" with the help and support of her family and friends after completing part of her long-term restorative treatment to improve the condition of her eye.

The star took to Instagram to share snaps from her hospital bed following her operation to thank all her fans for their messages of support as she looks forward to a "lazy recovery weekend" ahead.

She captioned the picture: "Thank you to everyone for all of your lovely messages of support!

"They've helped me keep smiling throughout my surgery, and a big thanks to the incredible team at the hospital. Here's to a lazy recovery weekend!"

The activist from Hampshire threw her hair up into a lazy half up pony while flashing a confident smile to the camera.

In a statement, Katie's representative told the Mail Online: "Katie is resting and recovering from her latest operation – it is part of a long-term treatment plan on her eyes following the injuries she sustained over a decade ago.

"[Tuesday's] successful procedure was a skin graft on her upper right eyelid – this is her 'good' eye, her left is fully blind. Katie thanks everyone for their kindness and the thousands of warm wishes she's received."

Katie was left with major burns to her face and blindness in one eye following the acid attack by an ex-boyfriend and his accomplice in a pre-planned street attack outside her house in north London.

It comes after Katie hit back at a cruel troll last October who sent her vile messages online about her appearance.

The troll wrote: "You're the most repulsive and ugliest thing I've ever seen why even bother with makeup."

Katie was quick to share the post to her followers on Instagram and point out the work and conversations that need to be done around diversity and inclusion.

The inspirational star has also gone on to establish her thriving charity the Katie Piper Foundation which supports burns survivors and their supportive families and carers.
