Love Islands Maya Jama details horror injury that left star wheelchair-bound

Maya Jama has detailed a gruesome injury she sustained that left part of the star’s foot “hanging off”.

Maya has been working hard at her career for over a decade and at the age of 17 bagged the opportunity to host Charlie Sloth’s Fire in The Booth in Ayia Napa, Cyprus.

But things took a turn for the worst the night before her big hosting gig, and the star ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of her time abroad.

Detailing the events that unfolded, Maya, now 28, explained: “I went to Ayia Napa when I was 17 to host Charlie Sloth's show Fire In The Booth. But the day before the actual beach party thing we were supposed to be hosting, I ended up slipping on a bit of mashed-up kerb.”

She continued to say on Pretty Little Thing's Behind Closed Doors podcast, as per The Sun: “The bottom of my foot was hanging off. I had to be in hospital for two days and ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of the time.”

Apparently Maya had “ripped a nerve”, but was unable to feel the extent of the damage.

“I was getting carried into the ambulance like ‘wahey…’ not knowing that I might not be able to bend my f**king toes,” the Love Island host went on.

Over a decade on from the ordeal, Maya said she still can’t bend her big toe.

Maya left pulses races on Sunday night’s Aftersun, 29 January, where she showcased her impressive physique in a black corset dress.

The fitted ensemble had lace-up detailing on the sides and centre, sending Love Island fans into a frenzy.

“Maya's outfit is really outfitting,” said one fan.

“Maya is looking amazing!" added another, while a third went on: “Maya is so fine omds, how does she always manage to look so good?"

Maya has gone down a storm with Love Island viewers in the wake of her hosting debut earlier this month – including with colleague Iain Stirling.

Labelling the 28 year old as a “no-brainer” for the show, Iain – whose wife, Laura Whitmore, used to host the Love Island – said: “[Maya]’s got that relationship with that audience and I just think she embodies what the show’s about.”

He went on: "She's got that relationship with that audience and I just think she embodies what the show's about. I hope she has a nice time.”

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
