Lydia Bright and James 'Arg' Argent were "always meant to be together" and have a "deep love for each other," a source has claimed following reports the pair are hoping to rekindle their romance.
James, 34, and Lydia, 30, dated on and off between 2008 and 2016 but finally split for good five years ago when she discovered he had been seeing Gemma Collins at the same time.
But it is reported the former The Only Way Is Essex stars have now been meeting up in secret in an attempt to make their relationship work once again.
A source tells OK! online: "Lydia and James have always got on, there's been the Gemma Collins phase but he and Lydia were always meant to be together.
"There is such a deep love there and even though he let Lydia down, they've realised it was his demons and he's faced up to that."
OK! online has contacted representatives for both Lydia and James for comment on this story.
Arg has spent the past year overhauling his life, giving up alcohol and cocaine and shedding 11 stone in seven months after undergoing gastric sleeve surgery.
A source told MailOnline the pair were hoping to reignite their romance earlier this week, saying: "James and Lydia have been spending a lot of time together in recent weeks.
"They became friends again at the beginning of the year but now they're starting to develop more serious feelings for each other.
"Everyone knows James has never stopped loving Lydia and the idea of her taking him back has spurred him on throughout his weight loss journey.

"Lydia has been supportive of his recovery, and he's still considered family – those closest to them are hoping this will be the happy ending they've always longed for."
James recently opened up on his weight loss as he celebrated his 34th birthday.
Taking to Instagram, he shared a photo of himself sitting outside his house, showing off his newly trim figure.
He wrote: "THE BIRTHDAY BOY. I can't actually believe that I'm 34 today!
"I want to thank everyone for their love & support. I continuously get stopped in the street with people saying 'keep going Arg' & 'You've got this'.
"I've been through a hell of a lot but I'm so lucky to have so many people behind me & that believe in me. I've got lots to be proud of. My weight loss, My beloved & the house that I always dreamed of buying but never thought I'd be able to get.
"Hopefully in 2022 I'll meet the love of my life [laughing face emoji] but most importantly stay happy & healthy!"
