Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson Discuss Taking DNA Test to Confirm If They Are Brothers

When talking to Kelly Ripa in an April episode of her podcast, Matthew also spills his new series that will reunite him with Woody are about their ‘families coming together.’

AceShowbizMatthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson have apparently discussed taking a DNA test. When guesting on “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa” podcast, the “Dallas Buyers Club” actor revealed that he and his “True Detective” co-star might be blood related.

The 53-year-old Hollywood star made the revelation in the Tuesday, April 11 episode of the podcast. Speaking to host Kelly Ripa, he first unveiled that his mother made the confession that she “knew” Woody’s father which led to thoughts whether the two actors might well be half-brothers.

“In Greece a few years ago, we’re sitting around talking about how close we are and our families,” Matthew recounted. “And my mom is there, and she says, ‘Woody, I knew your dad.’ Everyone was aware of the ellipses that my mom left after ‘knew.’ It was a loaded K-N-E-W.”

The revelation prompted Matthew to decide to dig into their family history. “We went on to unpack what this ‘knew’ meant and did some math and found out that [Woody’s] dad was on furlough at the same time that my mom and dad were in their second divorce,” he spilled.

The husband of Camila Alves went on to further dish, “Then there’s possible receipts and places out in West Texas where there might have been a gathering, or a meeting, or a ‘knew’ moment.”

When the topic of DNA test to confirm the suspicion was brought up, Matthew admitted, “This is what we’re on the precipice of now.” He then explained, “Look, it’s a little easier for Wood to say, ‘Come on, let’s do it,’ because what’s the skin in it for him?”

“It’s a little harder for me because he’s asking me to take the chance to go, ‘Wait a minute, you’re telling me my dad may not be my dad of 53 years’ and believe in it? I got a little more skin in the game,” the Oscar winner continued offering reason behind his hesitation.

During the interview, Matthew did note on how close his and Woody’s families are and on their resemblance to each other. He said, “You know, where I start and where he ends, and where he starts and I end, has always been like a murky line … that’s part of our bromance, right?”

“My kids call him Uncle Woody. His kids call me Uncle Matthew… you see pictures of us and my family thinks a lot of pictures of him are me. His family thinks a lot of pictures of me are him,” he further pointed out.

Elsewhere in the chat, Matthew talked about his new series “Brother From Another Mother” on which he will reunite with Woody. Describing the show, he spilled that it is “about our families that’s based on truth.”

“Where Woody and I are the best of friends, we have different approaches in how we raise our children and how we go about certain things,” he added. “And this is a story about … it’s a love story, about us, he and I … our families coming together … the conflicts and comedy that come with it.”
