Nicole Kidman’s husband Keith Urban, who has battled drug and alcohol addiction, has credited the Big Little Lies actress with keeping him grounded and helping him to avoid succumbing to unwanted temptations. Now, Nicole, 55, has demonstrated the love she has for her beau in a touching message to mark his 55th birthday.

The dedicated actress shared her birthday tribute with her 8.6 million followers, posting a snap of the loved-up pair kissing at an event, with crystal chandeliers sparkling in the background.

She revealed she is still just as much in love with the musician after 16 years of marriage, writing: “Happy Birthday my love… 4ever.”

The star added a string of love heart emojis to her post to punctuate her point.

@kristinabossaert marvelled: “One of the worlds hottest couples, hands down – your love is a joy to watch!”

The post received more than 250,000 likes, with some praising Keith’s music on his special day, although one Instagrammer and fan of Nicole, @louisdavid32, cheekily retorted: “Get your hands off my wife!”

Nicole and Keith swiftly married just months after they first met, tying the knot in June 2006 to make their whirlwind romance official.

The two adopted children that Nicole shares with ex-partner Tom Cruise – Isabella, 29, and Connor, 27 – served as bridesmaid and usher.

The couple then welcomed their own daughters, Sunday Rose, 14, and Faith Margaret, 12 – and the stable family life that Nicole has provided him seems to have kept Keith on the straight and narrow.

Just months after he wed her, Keith had checked into the Betty Ford Center to get help to address his demons.

After the stint, Keith revealed: “Life is very different nowadays. I’m trying to set a good example for the kids.”

The star, who is currently working as a mentor on The Voice Australia, reflected on his previous problems in a recent interview.

“Night-time me hates daytime me, it’s so true, but the next morning night-time me is nowhere to be found — he’s totally unaccountable,” Keith lamented to The Sun.

Meanwhile, Nicole is confident that taking on his demons and committing to helping him heal has been the right choice for her.

“That man is the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” she revealed earlier in the year in a CBS interview promoting her movie Becoming The Ricardos.

She has recalled the trouble her husband had gone to in order to celebrate her birthday, too.

On one occasion, he even perched on the steps of an apartment she had in New York at the crack of dawn, and presented her with flowers as soon as she came outside at 5am.

The romantic singer described getting sober after marrying Nicole as the major “turning point” in his life, which is now all about being the best role model he can be to his children.

Meanwhile, the pair have bonded over both sharing tough childhoods due to a lack of money in earlier life.

“I married a man who’s totally self-made and came from a background where he said every brick in his house is a gig,” she once told Glamour.

“He grew up on a farm, literally in a shed. They didn’t have bedrooms.”
