Oti Mabuse supported by celebrity friends as her niece dies at 28

Celebrities have offered their support for Oti Mabuse and her family after it was announced her niece has died at the age of 28.

Oti shared the heartbreaking news on Saturday morning that her beloved niece Tlhogi had passed away, and she’s since received an outpouring of tributes and touching messages from friends and fans in support of her and her family.

On Instagram, Oti’s sister Motsi Mabuse explained that she will not be commenting on the sad news, calling it a private matter.

She wrote: “I will not be responding to any questions about the unfortunately sad news in my family. It is a private matter for me. Please respect my decision.”

However, many have sent messages of love and support to the Mabuse family, with Alexandra Burke commenting: “Sending you love my darling I’m so sorry for your loss xxx”.

Laura Whitmore said she was “thinking of” the family, while Shirley Ballas left a heart emoji.

Ru Paul’s Drag Race star Michelle Visage wrote: “I'm so sorry my love” and Strictly star Dianne Buswell wrote: “I’m sorry for your loss oti xxxxx sending lots of love”.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star, 31, took to her Instagram on Saturday morning to share the emotional post about her niece to announce the news.

She shared a selection of images including herself cuddling Tlhogi and giving her a kiss on her head with her 644,000 followers.

Oti wrote in the caption: "How is this the last time I would hold you in my arms. I am so shattered inside I can’t even begin to describe the pain. This is not how this was supposed to go."

She went on: "We had plans together, travel the world and dance on a beach in Jamaica for my birthday" followed by a broken heart emoji.

"I used to fetch you everyday from crèche, swimming, chess since we were 8. You were only 28 yet the kindest, sweetest human being in my life! I’ve lost my niece, my little sister, my best friend Life dealt you the harshest card but you always chose to win, you always fought to come out the other side above it all with a smile on your face.

"I love you much with all my heart and now you’re gone and I feel lost in more ways than one to a pain I’ve never felt before. I’m still calling you and texting you trying to understand – how? Why?"

The heartbroken star continued: "May you rest in peace and power my sweet Tlhogi say hi to Koko, Abuti Neo Le Malume Tshepo. I promise to take care of Sesi, Nanikie and Mpho for you x".

Oti shared a selection of pictures of her niece including family snaps with other members of the family.

Oti announced last month that she will be leaving Strictly after seven years on the show.

The professional dancer is a hugely popular star on the BBC celebrity dance competition and she is currently a judge on ITV's Dancing on Ice and is also part of the panel on The Masked Singer. The star will also host a brand new dating show on ITV, called Romeo and Juliet.
