Piers Morgan has been criticised for reacting with fury to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey on Sunday 7 March.

Piers, 55, claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have “trashed everything the Queen stands for”.

In reaction the couple’s appearance on the interview, which will be aired on ITV at 9pm on Monday 8 March, Piers tweeted: “Let’s be clear: Prince Harry and his wife just spent two hours trashing everything the Queen stands for & has worked so hard to maintain, whilst pretending to support her.

“And they did it while her 99yr-old husband Philip is seriously ill in hospital. It’s contemptible.”

Piers continued his attack on Meghan, 39, and Prince Harry, 36, who are expecting a baby girl, as he appeared on Good Morning Britain.

Speaking on the ITV show he ranted: “They don’t know how to spell compassion. They trashed his dad, they trashed his brother, they trashed his sister-in-law.

“They’ve trashed everything the Queen has worked so hard to maintain, the monarchy, and we’re supposed to believe they’re compassionate?”

To which Susanna said: “They felt they were trashed and lied about. She said she was driven to the verge of taking her own life.”

And Piers said: “They said that yeah,” hinting that he doesn’t believe the claims made in the couple’s interview where Meghan revealed she had suicidal thoughts during her time in the Royal Family.

Piers’ tirade continued throughout the programme, where he carried on slamming the couple’s claims that there were “concerns” over how dark their son Archie’s skin colour would be by a member of the royal family.

The outspoken TV presenter defended the Royal Family said: “We don’t want know who the conversation was with or the context.”

He later added: “They portrayed the Royal Family as racist and it’s a very incendiary charge.”

Critics fumed on about Piers’ rants on Good Morning Britain and on Twitter.

One wrote: “I was hoping piers Morgan would have a heart after the interview. Unfortunately not. I hate piers. What is he trying to accomplish?” [sic]

Another raged: “Well done Piers. On International womens day what could be more fun for you than continuing to bash a heavily pregnant woman who has just confessed to mental health issues and contemplating suicide.” [sic]

While a third tweeted to Piers: “Did we watch the same interview? They told their side of the story in the most respectful way that they possibly could. One can only go so far in doing so when your own “family” strips you of your protection and discriminates against your unborn mixed child.”

Another added: “Piers Morgan is so OBSESSED with Meghan it’s getting boring now”.

And a fifth fumed: “A new low from Piers Morgan here, dismissed the racism and bullying claims from Harry and Meghan, and just says ‘WHAT WOULD DIANA SAY?’. What the f**k? He’s seriously asking what someone’s dead mother would say about them? Despicable.”
