Piers Morgan hits back at James Acaster for slamming him and ITV co-star Lorraine Kelly

The Last Leg: Lorraine attempts to defend Piers Morgan

Piers Morgan, 55, couldn’t resist hitting back at James Acaster, 35, after the comedian blasted his fellow ITV star Lorraine Kelly, 61, during The Last Leg of the Year 2020, which aired last night. The Good Morning Britain presenter cheekily snubbed the comic in a post on Twitter this afternoon, following his scathing remarks after Lorraine defended him on the Channel 4 programme.

Lorraine, who appeared on the New Year’s Eve show alongside hosts Adam Hills, Alex Brooker and Josh Widdecombe, was criticised by James when she named Piers as one of her 2020 “heroes” following the government’s boycott of GMB.

The 201-day government boycott of the morning programme finally ended in November.

Lorraine said when quizzed on her “heroes” for 2020: “I think… stay with me on this one. Piers Morgan.”

James then cheekily hit back: “Go f*** yourself!”

Following the funny exchange between Lorraine and James, Piers took to social media to share his thoughts.

The outspoken journalist retweeted a clip of the moment in view of his 7.7 million followers, which was posted by a viewer, who wrote: James Acaster telling Lorraine to go f*** herself was the highlight of my nye.”

Weighing in on the video, Piers also mischievously declared that he was unaware of who James was before watching the show.

He quipped: “a) Thank you @reallorraine! b) Who is James Acaster? (genuine question).”

It comes after Lorraine explained her thought process to James about why Piers has been a “hero” during the coronavirus pandemic.

The presenter said following James’ shocked reaction: “Stay with me.

“I appreciate the sentiment but don’t look at me like that.”

She then chuckled: “I did say stay with me, love.”

Lorraine, who fronts her self-titled ITV daytime show, admitted she admired Piers’ handling of the government boycott.

“Do you remember when Boris Johnson hid in a fridge rather than be interviewed by Piers?” she commented.

“None of the cabinet ministers would come on the telly because they were all scared.”

Lorraine went on: “They all then phoned up and went, ‘Hi… do you remember us, can we come back on the telly?’

“And then they all came back on the telly. And actually, it would have been better if they didn’t.”

She added: “Because I don’t know about you but I would much rather talk to ‘H’ from Steps than Priti Patel.”

Adam then joked: “You almost won James back over there.”

Lorraine turned back towards the comedian, who still seemed less than impressed with the presenter’s admission.

He exclaimed: “You can’t just stop being a villain for two seconds and now you’re a hero.”

“It’s fine,” Lorraine said, as she insisted the comic didn’t have to agree.
