Piers Morgan, 56, appeared on Fox Nation to give an in-depth interview with Tucker Carlson about leaving Good Morning Britain. However, not everyone was so thrilled with his words as The Wire writer David Simon criticised Piers on Twitter after, calling him a “pouty and puckered a******.”

Piers appeared on Tucker’s show on Monday to address his exit from GMB over his Meghan Markle comments.

During the hour-long conversation, the outspoken presenter spoke about why he decided to leave as well as not feeling like he was able to have an opinion.

However, it was not long before his appearance on the show landed him in a heated argument on social media.

In response to a tweet from Piers that the interview was now streaming in the US, David made his opinion clear.

He tweeted: “In an ocean of talking-head sewage, what are the chances that the two most pouty and puckered a******* in broadcast television would ever swim through the brown, find each other, and discuss the events of the day?”

Piers was quick to respond to his words, levelling his own insults back at the writer.

He replied: “Talking of sewage, Dave… you were all over me like a sycophantic chap rash when I interviewed you.

“Yet now you play the vicious horrible illiberal liberal to appease your vile woke base.

“All a bit s**t really. But on a positive note, I loved The Wire.”

David responded again to Piers, hitting out again at what he had to say.

He replied: “You met me once, on a stage at Cannes with Richard Plepler [and] Aaron Sorkin on a panel I attended at the request of HBO.

“1) Didn’t know you from a fart in high wind. 2) Was polite to said fart at Richard’s request as that man was a Medici to me. Now go lick some racist royalty.”

Piers then replied, praising The West Wing writer Aaron Sorkin in another insult.

He tweeted: “Aaron was a class act. You…. not so much. Probably explains why The West Wing is so much better than The Wire.”

The back-and-forth was not over yet as David hit back: “Sorkin is swell and has gigs.

“I’m still working for Time Warner after a quarter century.

“You’re unemployed and if it was a Tijuana cathouse and you had a fistful of fifties, you still couldn’t get laid at TW or anywhere else over here. Not after that p***fall you did at CNN.”

Piers clapped back: “Yet oddly, despite your stupendous ego, I have 26 times as many followers as you!

“You’re a great writer but a repulsive human being. Aaron’s a better writer and a great guy. Be more like Aaron.”

Their spat ended with David replying: “Yes, popularity on this platform is truly indicative of worth and mettle.

“It’s a damn wonder you keep getting fired when actual journalism is required.

“Now go back some poor girl’s cellphone and call that moral midgetry reporting, you empty parasite (sic).”

This all comes after Piers sat down with Tucker to speak about his exit from GMB over his comments on Meghan Markle.

Piers said he didn’t believe Meghan on his morning news show after her landmark interview with Oprah Winfrey.

She and her husband Prince Harry had opened up about why they were leaving the Royal Family as well as her own mental health struggles.

Piers’ comments led him to be complained about to the regulatory body Ofcom over 57,000 times.

In his column for the Mail on Sunday, Piers levelled he was then told to either apologise or exit the show, and he chose the latter.
