Porn Star’s Shocking Claim — She Only Made $12,000 Her Entire Career!

You may not know the name Mia Khalifa, but she’s one of the most viewed porn stars in the world.

The 26-year-old left the industry nearly five years ago, but she’s still highly ranked, her videos are viewable on Pornhub and elsewhere, and there’s even a website still active using her name.

And she says she hasn’t made a dime off any of that. And what she made in the mere months she actually did make films was, well, pretty stunning.

The Lebanese performer took to Twitter on Monday to highlight a recent interview she did with Megan Abbott on YouTube. And she led with an astounding fact.

She wrote:

“People think I’m racking in millions from porn. Completely untrue. I made a TOTAL of around $12,000 in the industry and never saw a penny again after that.”

Whoa, whut??

One of the most famous names in porn right now, and she didn’t make enough to buy a Honda??

She says she only made about $1,000 per video. Moreover, she says it was tough making money doing anything afterward:

“Difficulty finding a normal job after quitting porn was… scary.”

In the interview, she goes more into depth about her experiences finding a job after porn, saying:

“It was terrifying because I didn’t know what I was going to do. I had a huge gap period in my résumé.”

She also says:

“It gets me so down when I get ‘no’s’ from companies who don’t want to work with me because of my past, but I also thought I would never find a man like my fiancé.”

Mia got engaged earlier this year, so clearly her past career is not a dealbreaker for everyone.

She said about her man:

“The fact that he appreciated everything I’ve done since porn meant so much.”

Since leaving the industry in 2015, Mia first worked as a paralegal — but then used her fame to her advantage as a sports commentator, a model, and a YouTube creator and social media personality.

Mia currently has 16.7 MILLION Instagram followers, who get to see her like this…

One could argue she owes this new career to her months in porn, but that doesn’t change the amount she made off her actual work in the industry.

She returned to Twitter in response to comments about her post, mostly by people who didn’t watch the hourlong interview, saying:

“To clarify, I was never promised “millions”, nor do I expect it. I’m just clarifying common misconceptions about me, and in turn, about the industry.

I was involved in porn so briefly, but my actions spread like wildfire, and I continue to be ranked (truly baffles me) 5 years after leaving the industry. This is why people think I still perform.”

Mia tells Megan she thought porn would be her “dirty little secret” but was quickly disabused of that notion:

“My friends from home started to find out because somebody found the first scene and they sent it to everybody.”

Almost immediately Khalifa lost any chance of keeping anything a secret; she became famous just weeks into her career when she broke a serious taboo in the Muslim world — doing a porn scene while wearing a hijab.

That clip turned her into a star overnight, but it also got her actual literal death threats. Lots of them. She tells Abbott:

“Instantly that it was posted, it was like wildfire. ISIS sent me death threats, they sent me a Google Maps image of my apartment. I stayed in a hotel for two weeks after that because fear really set in.”

The silver lining? She says Internet trolls are no longer intimidating:

“I don’t sweat the small stuff anymore, things people say don’t offend me. I always think ‘OK, but are you ISIS? Are you going to kill me? No, move on.’”

Despite signing a longterm contract with Bang Bros, Khalifa backed out after just a few weeks over the cost this kind of fame was having on her personal life.

Now she’s speaking out against the industry, saying adult film companies “prey on callow young women” and “trap women legally into contracts when they’re vulnerable.”
