Prince Harry heartbreakingly arrives at Balmoral an hour after Queens death announcement

Prince Harry arrived at Balmoral in Scotland an hour after the death of his grandmother the Queen was announced.

The Duke of Sussex was seen siting in the back of a car as he arrived to the estate to join other members of the royal family wearing a black suit and tie.

Harry flew into Aberdeen Airport alone, hours after brother William and other royals arrived together on an RAF plane.

William was seen driving his fellow royals to Balmoral Castle as the family rushed to be by the Queen's bedside, before the sad news of her death was announced shortly after they arrived.

Harry’s wife Meghan Markle has not travelled to Scotland with him, with the Duchess remaining in London.

Harry’s grandmother the Queen – the longest-reigning monarch in British history – passed away today at the age of 96.

A statement from Buckingham Palace, which announced the devastating news, read: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon."

Using Charles and Camilla's new titles, it continued: “The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

The new monarch Charles has shared a sombre statement following the announcement of his mother, the Queen's death.

Sharing his grief, Charles said in a statement: "The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.

"We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother.

"I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.”

"During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held."
