Sarah Harding’s ex-boyfriend Chad Johnson, 34, has opened up on the late singer’s unfulfilled dream to become a parent. Chad, who started dating Sarah after he met the Girls Aloud star on Celebrity Big Brother in 2017, shared his heartache over her death from breast cancer at the age of 39, stating that she “would have been an amazing mum”.

It comes after Sarah’s mum Marie announced the sad news of her death on Sunday following her breast cancer diagnosis in 2020.

American reality star Chad, who is believed to be Sarah’s last boyfriend, said: “Sarah wanted to be a mum but she never got to do that.

“That feels very sad for me. I always thought Sarah would have been an amazing mum.

“She had such a motherly vibe, she was very caring towards the people she loved. And she loved children.

“She would have been obsessed with her kids in the best way. It was just in her nature.”

Chad and Sarah fell for each other after their time in the Big Brother house.

However, their relationship eventually came to an end as they struggled with the long distance between them.

Despite their split, Chad and Sarah stayed in contact over the years and were on good terms.

Chad went on to reveal to The Sun that he and Sarah had planned to meet up again, but he was unaware of just how unwell she was at the time.

He said: “We’d always stayed in touch.

“We had been planning to meet up but I had to move the dates and we couldn’t make it work — and then the pandemic hit.

“But we stayed in touch via texts and on social media. For us both, I think we always thought we would reconnect. We had a connection, a great relationship.”

The star added: “But even after she said she was sick I never really realised how poorly she was. It never really hit me.”

He admitted: “I still can’t believe she has gone. I was always thinking of her.”

Sarah previously opened up on her desire to have children in her book Hear Me Out, which she wrote following her cancer diagnosis.

She wrote after a phone call with her Girls Aloud bandmate and mum-of-one Cheryl: “That one came to me the other day when I was talking to Cheryl on the phone.

“I was saying how we never thought Nadine [Coyle] would be the first one of us to have a child, and that now three of them have kids.

“It might seem odd to worry about not having children when I don’t even know how much of a life I have left, but it’s there.

“The truth is, even if my prognosis was better, it still wouldn’t be on the cards because of all the chemotherapy I’ve had.

“That treatment, harsh as it is, will have killed any chance I might have had. It’s making me cry just thinking about it.”
