Sarah Harding’s dad has spoken out for the first time since the singer’s death. The Girls Aloud star, 39, sadly died in September after a battle with breast cancer.

The pop singer had revealed in August 2020 that she had been diagnosed with the disease, which had spread to other parts of her body.

Sarah’s dad has since addressed his daughter’s death and hinted that the pair had reconciled after being estranged for two decades.

The singer had cut off communication with her father in 2000 after he split from her mum Marie.

Taking to Instagram, John shared an image of Sarah, as he paid tribute to his daughter.

In view of his 1,531 followers, he penned: “In memory of my beautiful daughter Sarah Harding (Hardman) this Christmas. I cherish the moments we had together before and during her illness.

“We all miss her greatly, and we thank her fans for their love and kindness, wishing them and their families a very happy Christmas. One can only try to stay safe in such difficult times. Best wishes. JH.”

He shared the post on Boxing Day and has thanked social media users for their messages.

John said: “Thank you everybody. Good New Year to all.”

Sarah had opened up about her dad in the autobiography Hear Me Out which was released in March.

The Girls Aloud star spoke positively about her father who she branded a “talented musician”.

The pop star also told readers that her dad has performed at The Royal Variety Performance and met the Queen — just like she has.

She wrote: “My dad John was hugely into music. A talented musician in his own right, he played lead guitar, piano and bass, and he sang too.

“I vividly remember the photograph of him and his guitar which was on display at my granny’s house.

“Dad has been in quite a few bands over the years and one of the things we have in common is that we’ve both performed at The Royal Variety Performance and met the Queen. How cool is that?”

John was also a musician and was a member of the 1970s band Sunfighter.

He has continued to make music throughout the years and shares it via his social media accounts.

Earlier this year, doctors announced that Sarah would not live to see another Christmas.

Her mother Marie announced the news of her death on Instagram, describing her “beautiful” daughter as “a bright, shining star”.

Her Girls Aloud bandmates Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle led the tributes on social media.

Nicola shared that she couldn’t “believe the day had come” and Nadine added she is “utterly devastated”.
