The Truth About Paul Ritter’s Marriage

Actor Paul Ritter died at the age of 54 from a brain tumor on April 5, 2021. The Sun published a statement from his agent stating,  “He died peacefully at home with his wife Polly and sons Frank and Noah by his side.” Adding, “Paul was an exceptionally talented actor, playing an enormous variety of roles on stage and screen with extraordinary skill. He was fiercely intelligent, kind, and very funny. We will miss him greatly.”

He was known for playing Prisoner Louis in Hannibal Rising in 2007, Guy Haines in Quantum of Solace in 2008, and Eldred Worple in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in 2009. Perhaps his best-known role, though, was as Martin Goodman in the British sitcom, Friday Night Dinner, which ran from 2011 to 2020 (via IMDb).

The Sun reports that a 10th anniversary retrospective of Friday Night Dinner will air on Channel 4 later this year, featuring Tamsin Greig, Simon Bird, Tom Rosenthal, and Ritter.

Paul Ritter kept his family completely out of the limelight

Many fans are familiar with Ritter’s Friday Night Dinner character, Martin Goodman, and his two sons, Adam Goodman and Jonathan “Jonny” Goodman. In real life, Ritter had two sons, as well, and the Daily Mirror stated that he used his actual experiences in order to play this character. He was also influenced by his own father. “Lots of the mannerisms come from my own dear old departed dad,” the actor shared. “He was a very funny guy, as well.”

While it is true that Ritter was married and was a father, there is not much else known, as he kept his personal life extremely private. In fact, the public did not even know he was battling a brain tumor, the Daily Mirror went on to say.

But in the end, Ritter was at home, and he was surrounded by loved ones: his real-life sons, named Frank and Noah, and his wife, Polly.
