This birthday hits hard as my mums not here to see the twins, says Frankie Essex

Former TOWIE star Frankie Essex gave birth to her twins, whom she shares with boyfriend Luke Love, in May and has since revealed to the world that they’ve named their little bundles of joy Logan and Luella.

In her exclusive column for OK!, Frankie’s discussed a range of topics in regards to motherhood – from her first social outing with the twins and a blackout at her home when they were just a few days old, to returning to the gym and moving in with cousin Chloe Sims while their family home is being renovated.

This week, Frankie chats about how the Queen’s funeral reduced her to tears, as well as about a well-known A list celebrity being amongst those to sing her a happy birthday…

Tom Cruise sang happy birthday to me!

My birthday was lovely. We went to London and visited La Petite Maison and, as we were sitting there, Tom Cruise walked in. However, he ended up being seated on the other side of the restaurant from us, but yeah… it was mad. We weren’t sure if he was here for the Queen’s funeral. It was so random!

Luke got me a happy birthday dessert at the restaurant, everyone sang happy birthday and I got a round of applause. Afterwards I was like: “Tom Cruise just sang me happy birthday!” Luke was laughing at me.

First time leaving the babies…

My birthday meal was the first time Luke and I had ever left the babies with someone. I think Logan cried a bit, but [my Dad and his girlfriend who were looking after them] didn’t tell us that. Luke said on the Sunday when we saw them again, my Dad slipped up and admitted Logan had been crying a lot. I think he didn’t want to tell me to worry me.

[My dad’s girlfriend] did really well with the twins as she had three grown up children of her own and two grandchildren. Obviously she did all the work looking after Logan and Luella, and she did really, really well.

The Queen’s funeral

It was so emotional. Because it was close to my birthday as well and because my mum’s not here – everyone was just grieving. Everyone shed a tear. The whole week I kept on crying and getting emotional thinking about sad things.

I’m quite an emotional person and around my birthday, I get upset every year anyway but when you have babies, you’re an emotional wreck!

It was really said because everyone said they thought [the Queen] was going to live forever. She worked literally two days before her passing – I mean, what a woman. It was incredible.

I always get sad on my birthday

It’s just one of those things, especially this year I thought, “God, 35 years ago, my mum had me…” which hit home more now I have babies. It hit me a little bit this year, but then I was alright again.

It hit harder because I’d left the babies too because, naturally, if my mum was around, I’d have left them with her. So leaving them with my dad and his girlfriend… you know, she’s not my mum. She doesn’t owe me anything – even though she’s more than happy to do it. It was quite a big deal for me to leave them.

I’m moving in with my Nan!

I was originally moving in with my cousin Chloe Sims but she’s literally just started filming for her new show and, I said to my Nan, with her having only just started it all, I think it’s going to be a lot for Chloe so I think I’m going to move into my Nan’s now.

She made me sad because after the Queen died, older people started doing loads of sad things, and my Nan said to me: “Oh I’m not going to be around here much longer, come and stay with me. I want to see the twins more”. I thought, you know what, I’ll just stay round my Nans, even if it’s just for a couple of nights and I do end up going to Chloe’s.

My Nan’s on her own all the time so it will be nice for her to have some company. It will be nice for me too because my mum grew up in that house.

Hero teething oil

The twins have started teething – as I thought they would soon – and luckily they’ve been okay because of this ointment Chloe recommended to me called Anbesol. It’s worked a treat, Logan’s like a different baby! It stops the pain and me and Luke tried it, and it like numbs your tongue.

I rub the ointment on the twins’ gums and, Logan in particular was crying so much before, but this stuff has worked a treat. I’ve told all my friends who have babies to get some!
