Westlifes Mark Feehily forced to pull out of tour amid emergency surgery

Westlife star Mark Feehily has had to pull out of the band's tour "under doctor's orders".

The singer shared the news on Instagram today, Monday 22 May, as he told his fans that he needs to undergo surgery this week, preventing him from joining his bandmates Shane Filan, Kian Egan, and Nicky Byrne on tour.

"We have five shows taking place this summer from May-July and it is will deep regret that I will not be able to join Shane, Kian and Nicky on stage for these shows," Mark penned in a statement shared to Instagram.

"This week I have to undergo a little bit of surgery. There is nothing to worry about I promise, but under doctor’s orders this surgery needs to happen sooner rather than later and will also require some recovery time throughout the summer."

He went on: "To all our amazing fans in Denmark, Sweden, Mexico, Cardiff and Henley, I want you to know that I was very excited to see you all and perform but this is something that can’t be avoided and I know that you will all still have the time of your lives at what will be some amazing shows!

"I'll be there with you in spirit and very much look forward to getting back on stage with the lads very soon!"

People have since sent their well wishes to Mark as the singer preps for surgery.

"Best luck with the surgery Marky, wishing you a speedy recovery. What matters in the first place is your health – that’s the most important thing. We love you so so much, we’ll keep thinking of you and will be sending you all our positive energy," wrote one fan.

"Sending lots of love Mark and hope you make a quick recovery," echoed another.

A third went on: "Your health is first! [heart emoji]".

This is the second time Mark has had to drop out of touring with his Westlife bandmates due to health reasons of late as back in November, the 42 year old fell seriously ill with pneumonia.

Addressing why he'd missed several shows, Mark explained at the time: "Firstly, I'd like to say a huge sincere thank you to everybody for sending their and get well soon messages – it means so much. I was really gutted to miss the weekend shows in Newcastle but I started to feel quite unwell on Friday and doctors have confirmed that it is a bout of pneumonia.”

He went on to reassure his fans and friends that "everything is currently under control" and "he feels better every day" as he managed to start antibiotics in the hospital very quickly.

In a positive update issued in January, Mark said he was finally feeling better as his doctor gave him the greenlight to go "back to normal" after weeks of recovering from the illness.
