Countryfile presenter Matt Baker has taken to Instagram to reveal that he had just finished an impromptu signing of his new book, A Year on Our Farm: How the Countryside Made Me. The Our Farm In The Dales star, 43, surprised the booksellers today when he turned up to sign his latest project, which gives his fans a glimpse into his life on his family’s farm and away from the camera.

So I’m going to play The Masked Signer

In view of his 289,000 followers, the farming star parodied ITV’s The Masked Singer.

Standing outside Waterstones, Matt revealed that he wanted to commemorate the biggest shopping event of the year.

He said: “It’s Black Friday and something I’ve got in the shops at the moment is my book.

“So I’m going to play The Masked Signer,” he said while putting on a face covering.

He went on: “Over the last week I’ve been nipping into bookshops and just randomly signing.

“Let’s go!” he added as he headed inside.

Heading to a pile of his new books, the star asked permission to sign them.

“I’d like to sign some, is that alright?”

“Yes, of course, we would love that, thank you so much!” a bookseller gushed.

“It’s a pleasure,” Matt added, as he went on to sign the whole pile of books on the table.

“It’s an exciting Friday morning,” the sales assistant could be heard saying.

Not wanting to miss any, Matt even grabbed the one from the shop window, which he quickly signed before heading out and wishing everyone a great day.

In the caption, Matt wrote: “It’s random having a book out, seeing yourself on a shelf- so as I’ve been travelling around for filming I’ve been popping into local book shops and signing my books that are out on display… its fun.”(sic)

Followers of The One Show’s former presenter quickly took to the comments to gush over the simple gesture.

Ricgre wrote: “You’re a legend”, while Suebryan51 added: “What an amazing man you are.”

Other Instagram users were quick to ask if the star would visit their local bookshops.

But it seemed that many others had already bought their copy of the new read and had already flicked through it.

Alexb30121 penned: “I’ve already got mine and I’m really enjoying it, your passion and love for the farm, the countryside, animals and wildlife really is a joy to read.”

“What a lovely book ,so enjoyed reading it, you are just great,” continued Lewis51carol.

Countryfile is on Sunday at 5.25pm on BBC One.
