A miss – Sophie Wessex dons unique dress in Congo but fans divided

Yesterday, Sophie met with the President of the Congo, Felix Tshisekedi. For the occasion, the Countess donned a unique, patterned dress with a cropped shrug. Although bold, some royal fans were unimpressed with the look.

Sophie’s dress was black with a unique turquoise pattern running down its centre.

The garment featured a v-neckline, short sleeves, and a flowing skirt.

It also had a loose belt around the waist, which featured the same turquoise pattern, which was a perpendicular row of circles.

It is not known where the dress is from, but Sophie, always a fan of recycling clothes, has worn it before.

Yesterday, the Countess combined the dress with a Paule Ka black cropped shrug, which Sophie has worn on multiple occasions in the past.

She last wore the bolero jacket with an all-black dress to greet crowds outside Buckingham Palace on September 17, two days before the Queen’s state funeral.

In the Republic of Congo, Sophie donned a pale blue, shawl-like cardigan over the dress and cropped shrug, before accessorising with jewellery.

She donned a beaded bracelet and a pair of silver and pink diamond-shaped earrings.

The earrings were Lucia Odescalchi’s petal earrings and seem to be one of Sophie’s favourite pairs.

Sophie completed the look with a Sophie Habsburg clutch bag in blue and a pair of Chloé sandals.

The bag featured a snakeskin print and the sandals were the Eliza Leather Wedge Slingback Sandals, which were sand-coloured.

Although the outfit seemed to be a classic Sophie look given that many of the pieces were recycled, royal fans were not impressed with the combination of clothes.

Rachel Hannam wrote: “I think there’s too much going on here. A miss in my opinion.”

Instagram user @sunshineandstars25 agreed. They said: “Sorry is it a dress, then a little shoulder jacket and then a coat… A lot going on not sure on this one.”

User @birdnerd327 liked the outfit, bar the shoes, saying: “Sophie has terrible shoe game but overall outfit is nice looking.”
