The Facebook foodie shared a snap of his lasagna sandwhich which showed the multi-layered pasta dish nestled between two slices of untoasted white bread.

He uploaded a photo of his dinner to Facebook group Rate My Plate , where the unlikely food  pairing racked up a huge 8.5k likes and 13k comments.

The home cook's unusual dish  completely divided opinion, with countless people admitting they love the idea, with many making the same dish themselves, while others thought it was gross and not at all appealing.

Commenting on the post, one person disapproved of the meal idea and wrote: "Otherwise known as constipation sandwich! Jesus!"

While another agreed that the carb-heavy meal was too much: "Don't you even get enough carbs with the pasta sheets? I couldn't stomach that combo."

And a third  said: "Why?? Not seen one meal from this site that looks edible. Should be renamed how awful can I make my food"

While some couldn't fathom the thought of doubling up on carbs, others offered their own suggestions when eating lasagna on toast – and turns out, the best way to have it is cold. One person said: "That's amazing but only if the lasagne is cold."

"Only do this the morning after when the lasagne is cold and firmed up. Delish", said another.

While another suggested skipping the butter:  "Lasagne should be cold served on unbuttered toast!"

A fourth person offered his opinion on "the correct way " and said:  "The correct way to do this would have been… grilling the bread with garlic butter.Garlic bread, lasagna sandwich. BOOM. Thank me later."
