Michael Halpern wanted to keep a lower profile for fall 2021, releasing his new collection with a look book instead of a virtual presentation and opting for softer, more wearable silhouettes over his much-loved showpieces, often in larger-than-life volumes and awash in myriad sequins.

“We had an exciting idea for a film, but we didn’t feel it’s right to get a crew together whilst still in lockdown. Doing fashion shouldn’t put anyone at risk,” the designer said.

But that’s not to say that he’s lost his optimism or flair for glamour. Inspired by conversations with friends about life post-lockdown, Halpern wanted to offer his own sparkly, joyful take on what women will want to wear when it’s safe to go out and socialize again. This includes animal prints galore, jazzy sequin-embellished flared pants and sensual, body-hugging silhouettes with plenty of cutouts.

“It was fun to explore that type of drama,” added the designer, who felt melding bold color and embellishment with wearable shapes was the best way for him to address this unusual season. “It’s still extraordinary, but not cumbersome. Women will want to go out, dance and meet people, they will want to feel unrestrained.”
