I married my high school bully – I hated him as a teen, now he says being with me is a 'dream' | The Sun

A UTAH woman has said she is "happily married" to her high school bully — despite him teasing her every day for months when they were teens.

Lauren Enslow, 20, fell in love with Lucas Olsen, 21, when she forgave him for tormenting her every day at school when she was 15.

Lauren admitted that she once "hated" Lucas for the way he and his friends would tease her.

They would call her "Linda" after the cartoon character from Bob’s Burgers, and Lucas would film Lauren in the hallways at school.

“I didn’t like being compared to her at all," the Saratoga Springs native said. “I hated him then."

They met during middle school in October 2016 at a mutual friend's party, and at first they were friendly and chatted on Snapchat.

Lucas then abruptly "shut it off" — so it was "really awkward" when they started high school in September 2017 and Lauren found herself in the same friend group as him.

She began to truly dislike him in earnest when Lucas and his friends started teasing her.

“They would only call me Linda," she said. “They thought it was so funny."

She added: “Lucas would film me and put it on his Snapchat without me knowing.

“At this point I hated him. I wanted nothing to do with him.”

Lucas admitted that he may have always had a crush on her — hence the teasing.

"I teased her because, in the moment, I think it was a mix of because I liked her and because my friends were doing it as well. Peer pressure in a way.

"Looking back now I just think it was silly," he added.

"When you are that young you think things like that are funny. And of course, me and my friends thought it was funny.

"I never actually thought she looked like that cartoon character.

"My friends and I were just coming up with characters to compare Lauren and all her friends to as a joke that ended up going a little too far."

But after Lucas witnessed Lauren get in a car accident in November 2017, he reached out to express concern.

Lauren, her mom Jessica Enslow, 48, and her sister Alyssa Kimber, 28, were in a parking lot when they spotted Lucas and rolled down the window to say hi.

“Seconds later we were in a car crash," Lauren recalled. “No one was seriously injured but the cars were messed up.”

Lauren shared a picture of the banged-up car on her Snapchat and was surprised when Lucas reached out.

“He asked if I was OK,” she said. “It showed he cared. It helped me like him again.”

After the accident, Lucas stopped his teasing, and the pair became friendly after Lauren’s pal convinced them to go on a double date.

“We started hanging out and having lots of fun,” Lauren said. “I started to develop feelings for him. He apologized for teasing me.”

“We ended up developing feelings for each other," Lauren said.

“People say they would never have forgiven him, but I can’t base his personality off who he was for three months when he was 16.

“I have forgiven him. I’ll still tease him about it sometimes."

The couple went from strength to strength and Lucas proposed on top of a mountain in July 2022.

“He took me to the top of a mountain to watch some fireworks,” Lauren said.

“Then he got down on one knee and pulled out a ring. I had been a bit suspicious but still very shocked when it actually happened.”

They eloped in October of the same year — the same date they met six years prior.

“People say they could never marry their high school bully,” Lauren said. “But for me, it was mostly teasing, and I got past it.”

“It’s funny that I can call him my high school bully and high school sweetheart," she added.

Lucas said: "There was always feelings for her, but I think once we both were wanting the same thing, life just did its thing.

"I’m a strong believer of everything happens for a reason and I love that it finally happened.
