Meghan Markle & Prince Harry likely to ‘spend next summer in the UK’ for Diana statue unveiling, expert claims

THEY may have just settled into their new £11m mansion in Santa Barbara – but Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expected to cross the pond next summer to see the unveiling of a new Princess Diana statue, a royal expert has claimed.

Appearing on the Heirpod podcast, royal author Omid Scobie – who co-authored the biography Finding Freedom – claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have "many reasons" to be based in the UK next summer.

He explained: "In March, we have the Invictus Games, which has been rescheduled, in the Hague.

"In June, we have Trooping the Colour, which I imagine Prince Harry and Meghan would like to still be at, and July 1, we have the unveiling of the Princess Diana statue."

Rather than travelling back-and-forth between the UK and their new Santa Barbara home, the expert believes Meghan, Harry and their one-year-old son Archie will be based in their Windsor home Frogmore Cottage.

He added: "I would not be surprised if we saw the Sussexes spend an extended period of time in the UK next year."

What's more, Omid claims the couple could return to the UK to carry out charity work before next year depending on coronavirus travel restrictions.

In an interview with RoyalCast, the expert added: "Harry and Meghan have made it clear that their work in the UK, including their royal patronages, will continue.

"While their base will be in the US, I think once travel restrictions ease we will see them moving around again and undertaking trips to the UK, both privately and professionally."

Earlier this week, Prince Harry and Prince William issued a rare joint statement to announce a new Princess Diana statue which will mark her 60th birthday.

Kensington Palace said the installation has been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, but will take place in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace on July 1, 2021.

In a rare statement, William and Harry said: "Our mother touched so many lives.

"We hope the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on her life and her legacy."
