Meghan Markle 'wanted to move to London and star in posh reality show' before meeting Prince Harry, claims former pal

SHE might be a member of the royal family now, but once-upon-a-time, Meghan Markle reportedly had aspirations to star "on an English reality TV show".

According to television presenter Lizzie Cundy – who claims to have been friends with the Duchess at the time – Meghan "wanted an English boyfriend" when they met in 2013.

"She told me she wanted to be on an English reality TV show and that she wanted an English boyfriend," Lizzie told the Mail Online.

"She set her sights on Made in Chelsea and worked hard to get in with that crowd.

"She said that she could only be in Suits for so long and that Hollywood was a really brutal place.

"She had not made a breakthrough, and said she would feel at home in London."

Meghan and Lizzie are said to have met after the royal started working with PR guru Nick Ede in 2013, who proposed Meghan co-host the Global Gift Foundation's gala with Pixie Lott's now fiance Oliver Cheshire.

Lizzie and Meghan are said to have been seated together at a pre-awards dinner the night before.

The former WAG told This Morning's Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes that the pair hit it off straight away, and that she almost "set Meghan up" with footballer and Cheryl's ex-husband, Ashley Cole.

Speaking about the Duchess on Friday's show, she said: "We got on like a house on fire.

"She was so funny, loved London and she wanted to find a boyfriend.

"… I did actually say, 'do you like footballers?' Because they were on my phone, I said do you want to have a look through.

"I thought Ashley Cole, because he’d just split up with Cheryl and they look kind of similar, I said he might like you."

According to reports, Meghan dismissed the idea after being advised by friends about the footballer's "reputation".

Over the next couple of years, it's been reported that Meghan swapped messages with X Factor winner, Matt Cardle instead.

A source said: “Matt followed Meghan initially in early 2015 because he thought she was a beautiful star from Suits.

“But he was stunned when she followed him immediately back and started messaging him. She said she was a big fan of his work.

"Matt couldn’t believe a Hollywood star like Meghan would even know who he was so he was very flattered and they chatted a little bit online before she suggested meeting up.

“But then he met his girlfriend and knew it wasn’t appropriate to keep talking to Meghan so he ended up ghosting her.

“It felt like there could have been a connection but the timing was wrong. He didn’t reply to her last message.”

Fast-forward a year, and Meghan was back in London.

"By now she had become friends with the Made in Chelsea set and she was hoping to get a role on the show. She was close to show stars Millie Mackintosh and Jessica Woodley," Lizzie continued.

At the time – and before the Duchess' social media was shut down – Meghan posted a snap of her and Millie riding bicycles at Soho Farmhouse.

It was also said to be around this time that Meghan struck up a friendship with Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan.

Speaking about their friendship, Piers has previously called the 37-year-old a "self-obsessed, professional actress who landed the best role of her life".

He recalled: "She sent me a private direct message: 'Well hello there — thanks for the follow. Big fan of yours!'"

But shortly after the pair met up for a drink at Piers' local in Kensington, Meghan met Prince Harry – and Piers never heard from her again.

"She's spent most of the past 20 years cosying up to people until they serve no more use to her, then airbrushing them out of her life without so much as: 'Goodbye, loser!' I know because I was one of them," he said.

While Lizzie also described herself as being "ghosted" and "ditched" by Meghan, Nick Ede explained: "Meghan had a lot of friends. That circle has reduced greatly."
