Revellers at Chester Races were determined to go out with a bang today, despite the inclement weather. 

It’s the final day of the annual Boodles May Festival, billed as the ‘pinnacle of Chester’s social calendar’, and attendees were determined to put their best foot forward. 

Luckily, plenty had brought their brollies to shelter from the showers, while others had to cover their heads with shawls. 

Many of the women who attended wore bright and colourful outfits – with hats or headpieces to finish off their outfits. 

But most looked concerned that the bad weather would would put a dampener on their day of boozing and betting.

The event culminates today with the highest profile race, the Chester Cup – which brings in huge crowds and the highest cash prize – £150,000. 

This stylish monochrome pair opted for outfits that complimented each other – with one sporting a short white mini dress and red accessories and the other going for a backless black jumpsuit

Rain? What rain? Five revellers rush to take shelter under one large umbrella – but don’t seem to mind the downpour with smiles – and beers – all round

Revellers were keen to kick off the weekend early, tucking into the booze as the races got underway this afternoon at Chester

Despite the rainy weather the women who attended bought the sunshine with their brightly coloured outfits and hats 

Most weren’t dressed for the bad weather which hit them as they arrived at the race course for Chester Cup Day at Boodles May Festival

Each stand at Chester Racecourse adheres to a specific dress code policy. If you’re in the Chester Members and Private Hospitality area, there is a ‘strictly smart’ style guide, with ladies encouraged to don longer length skirts and dresses, chic trousersuits and statement hats.

The Winning Post and County Long Room and Concourse enclosures suggest a ‘dress to impress’ mentality, recommending clutch bags, fascinators and mix-and-match colour schemes.

The Tattersalls enclosure urges guests to ‘make a statement’ with their outfits, listing jumpsuits and tailored shorts, maxi dresses and headbands and hair accessories as strong choices.

The most casual stands are the Dee and Open Course, where relaxed summer dresses, shorts and T-shirts and sunglasses are welcomed.

Some of this years race goers looked annoyed at the downpour while others giggled under umbrellas while they made their way into the event

Yesterday Made in Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo graced Chester with her debut performance as a roving reporter in her newly appointed role as Ambassador for Great British Racing.

Taking over Great British Racing’s Instagram channel, the TV personality went behind the scenes at Chester Racecourse to show fans everything that goes into a fabulous day at the races.
