Couple engaged two days after meeting on holiday – and theyre still together

A couple who got engaged two days after meeting on holiday are still together – 11 years later.

Shari Thorpe, 33, fell for Ryan's charms as soon as she spotted him by the pool while on a girls' trip to Gran Canaria, Spain.

The pair got chatting at the local karaoke bar and hit it off instantly back in July 2011.

And Ryan, 33, was so sure of his feelings that he popped the question just two days later.

The beautician thought it was a joke when he got down on one knee, but her heart told her to give it a go.

Now years on, the couple are still together after starting a family in February 2012, and tying the knot in August 2015.

Shari and Ryan, from Hampshire, have three sons together, Cayden, nine, Curtis, six, and one-year-old Cilian.

She said: "I remember telling my friend to put her sunglasses on so she could spy on him.

"I instantly thought he was good looking, it turns out Ryan was eyeing me up and told his friend I was the girl he was going to marry.

"It's all so crazy for me still. I only ended up going on holiday with my friend because her boyfriend couldn't go last minute.

"I never expected to find a husband. When he asked me to marry him after two days, I just thought 'why not?'."

On their first meeting, Ryan belted out a Westlife song dedicated to her before sweeping her off her feet with a marriage proposal.

When the pair returned to the UK, they had a long-distance relationship with Shari in Newcastle and Ryan in Hampshire.

And when she returned home, Shari told her parents she had a fiancé, but it didn't really register.

Many of her friends and family thought it was a fling that wouldn't last.

Shari took the plunge to move down south in December 2011, after just six months of dating.

A few months later in February, the couple fell pregnant with their first child.

They also celebrated their one-year anniversary by going back to the spot they met.

Shari continued: "I think friends and family were sceptical when we got engaged so fast.

"But as soon as they saw us together and we had Cayden together they could see how perfect we were.

"We're both the type of people that just goes for it and I am so glad I did. 11 years later and were still going strong."
