From Vegfest to jazz, here are five free virtual events to join online this week

Take a deep breath; it’s been a long old week.

From a seemingly endless US election to the UK’s lurch back into national lockdown, overwhelmed is how many of us are feeling right now.

But don’t lose hope. While pubs, clubs, galleries, gyms and pretty much everything in between may be off-limits, there are still ways you can relax and have fun – from the comfort of your own home.

This week alone, there are tonnes of fantastic free virtual events taking place, from a West End musical-themed pet adoption evening, to an online celebration of all things plant-powered.

Cats (and dogs), the musical

If you need your spirits lifted, look no further than West End Woofs, a live-streamed dog and cat adoption event co-hosted by theatre royalty Elaine Paige and Bernadette Peters.

Working with UK rescue and adoption shelters, including Staffie & Stray Rescue, Forever Hounds and Leicester Animal Aid, West End Woofs aims to raise awareness of animal adoption in the UK as well as educate everyone on responsible pet ownership.

Expect theatrical performances from a host of animal-loving West End performers, as well as adorable furry friends looking for their forever homes.
