Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith looks unrecognisable in stunning throwback snap

The Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith has shared a gorgeous throwback snap from her twenties.

The 81 year old, who has given a sneak peek inside her quirky home with an amazing yellow kitchen, posted a glamorous snap of herself, aged 29, in 1969 to her 189,000 Instagram followers.

Prue, who is known for her vibrant ensembles and retro glasses on the Channel 4 baking series, looked stunning in the throwback snap with cropped brunette hair and a maxi dress as she posed at the bar,

The celebrity chef smiled at the camera alongside a glass of fizz as she showcased her gorgeous figure in the elegant dress.

Captioning the snap, Prue penned: "Thank you so much for all the great compliments about how I look on Bake Off! Truth is I’m having a very happy old age, am not averse to fake tan out of a bottle and all the glamour is added by Bambi and Debbie (the glam team) Sharon (wardrobe) and Jane and Claire the GBBO’s stylists!

"Isn’t it mad that at any age we ALWAYS think we look grim, should lose a stone etc. In 1969 ( aged 29) I thought I’d die of shame if I hit ten stone.

"Now I look at that picture and wonder what I was on about: today I live in dread of hitting thirteen stone. But I’m very grateful for all the positive messages. Thank you so much."

Prue tied the knot to former fashion designer John Playfair, 73, in Scotland in 2016 but it wasn't until 2020 that the couple bought their first home and moved in together after nine years.

The GBBO star explained that it was so the couple could have 'personal space', and then enjoy "quality time" together.

Discussing their new home, Prue told the Telegraph: "John calls our new home our 'retirement home'.

"We have to face the fact that we're going to live together for the very first time. It just feels like the right time now."

The TV star has previously discussed her marriage, saying: "I had to get married in Scotland, because he refused to wear a kilt south of the border.

"I was determined, if I was going to get married this guy had to be in a kilt.

"So we went to Scotland where he was prepared to wear one. He won’t wear one south of the border, he thinks it’s naff. He’s got a very good undercarriage."

Prue has children from her previous marriage to Rayne Kruger, who she was married to for 28 years until his death in 2002.
