How to decorate your dining table this Christmas

Is this the bit of festive prep you’ve forgotten? We look at three differently decorated Christmas TABLES to see how they will be Insta-ready

  • Three social media stars reveal how they’ll decorate their Christmas tables
  • The table decorations include fake foliage as well as gold-coloured underplates

While most of your Christmas preparations may have been completed, there is possibly one item on the list that you’ve forgotten.

Decorating the dining table for your Christmas meals can take as long – or longer – than dressing a Christmas tree or wrapping up presents.

The decorations can include fake foliage, elaborate napkin origami and matching underplates.

And yet, the dining table is often overlooked until the last minute, even though it can be where we spend hours not only during the big day, but also throughout the festive period entertaining family and friends up until the New Year.

Nicola Hattersley, of John Lewis, said: ‘Table decorating is becoming an activity as synonymous to Christmas as the tree.

‘A beautiful table with thoughtful finishing touches is the perfect backdrop to a lovely roast dinner.

‘People are also looking to make the most of the time in between Christmas and New Year, ensuring that their dinner looks fit for festive celebrations and a party.’

Here, we reveal how three social media influencers – with a combined Instagram following of more than 200,000 – will be decorating their Christmas tables this year.

They are Medina Grillo of @Grillodesigns, with 71,600 Instagram followers, Gemma Breger and Samantha Silver of @ThisIsMothership, with 50,300 followers, and Jordan Cluroe and Russell Whitehead of @2lgstudio with 90,600 followers.

So what are the tips from these stars of Instagram.

Jordan Cluroe, of @2lgstudio, said: ‘This season coloured glassware in blues, pinks and purples are proving hugely popular and you can mix and match your glassware to achieve an eclectic look this Christmas.

‘For a layered look opt for the same coloured linens for your tablecloth and napkins and use underplates for added depth.’

Opting for different colours but a similarly stylish touch, Medina Grillo said: ‘This season is all about entertaining with friends and family and creating a table that will last you from December and into the New Year.

‘Using a table runner creates a flow along your table and also provides backdrop for the rest of your setting.

‘Gold accents such as underplates and napkin rings take your dining table from day to night and always use lots of candles to achieve a cosy ambience.’

Finally, Samantha Silver, of @ThisIsMothership, said that the Christmas tree isn’t the the only place that greenery can be on show.

However, rather than real trees and plants, she suggests using faux foliage as this is more practical.

She said: ‘Using faux foliage is a great way of adding a focal point to your table and you won’t have to worry about the display wilting over the festive period.’

She used faux green foliage with some accent red berries running along the centre of their Christmas table.
