Jaden Smith Says He Was Offered Food by Random People After Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith Staged an Intervention

Jaden Smith recalled the painful aftermath of his public intervention, which was staged by parents Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

The actor and musician discussed his health concerns during the December 2019 of Red Table Talk. Will Smith and Trey Smith joined hosts Jada, Willow Smith, and Adrienne Banfield-Norris as they listened to Jaden. In September 2019. Jada and Will decided to have an intervention on Red Table Talk. The Smiths referred to the sit-down as an “emergency family meeting” to address Jaden’s health.

Jaden later shared that while he was happy to have his family’s support, the public didn’t receive the episode in the way they hoped it would. He soon received strange offers from fans of Red Table Talk that began to affect his personal life.

Jaden Smith said people would ask him, ‘are you sick?’ after Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s intervention

After the episode about Jaden’s relationship with food aired on Facebook Watch, he said he often received unsolicited opinions from others when he would go out in public. He revealed that he was treated differently by people who recognized him and that random onlookers would offer to buy him food. He also said they would think he was sick, even if he was buying food alongside them.

“After the last episode, I walk in the street, and people are like, ‘Oh my God’ — they’re like, ‘Are you sick? Like, can I pick you up? Can I get you some water?’” Jaden said. “I’m here eating too. Like, I’m good. Like, I’m fine.”

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith said Jaden Smith was ‘wasting away’ before their intervention

Jaden shared on the show that he became a vegetarian within the last year, which impacted his eating habits. He said he would eat about two meals a day or have “one big meal” a day. According to Will and Jada, Jaden’s eating patterns began to affect his physical appearance in a significant way.

“[Jaden] was wasting away,” Jada said. “He just looked drained and was just depleted. He wasn’t getting the nutrients.”

“He was getting the dark circles under his eyes,” Will added. “There was even a little grayness to his skin and we got really nervous.”

Jaden Smith had frequent stomach issues before changing his diet

The Smiths’ intervention for Jaden became the inspiration for another episode regarding the family’s health. In December 2019, the family gathered with Dr. Mark Hyman from the Cleveland Clinic and Mona Sharma, Will’s nutritionist and wellness coach, to see what areas of their health they can improve on. Each family member went through a host of medical tests three months prior and discovered the results on the show.

Although Jaden didn’t want his test results shared in real-time out of fear of public fodder, Hyman did offer him advice for his eating habits. Jaden shared on the show that he primarily eats pancakes for breakfast, which Hyman said could be a factor in his frequent stomach issues, as Jaden has sensitivities to gluten and dairy. Jaden later changed his eating habits to get his health back on track.
