The twelve star signs slot into the four elements (water, fire, air, and earth) and the three modes (mutable, fixed, and cardinal). The zodiac is also divided in half, categorising the signs into two groups: masculine and feminine. Express.co.uk chatted to astrology expert Francesca Oddie (@francescaoddieastrology) to find out what the masculine and feminine star signs are.

The masculine and feminine zodiac signs have nothing to do with gender.

The difference is more to do with the way you deal with problems and how you act and react.

The idea that the zodiac signs are either masculine or feminine is just like yin and yang energy.

Yin energy is considered to be feminine and people with these traits are meant to be passive and negative among other things.

Yang energy is masculine, and it is supposed to be more active and positive.

Astrologers say that the masculine signs are more extroverted and the feminine signs are more introverted.

Masculine signs project their energy into the world and feminine signs use their energy as their own personal strength.

By understanding which your sign is, you can figure out how your energy works.

It doesn’t matter what sex you were assigned at birth, everyone has both masculine and feminine energy in them and astrology can teach you which side you lean more towards.

A man with a feminine star sign may have learnt to suppress this energy when growing up, and vice versa.

Because your horoscope is a chart and not a sign, you are made up of a mix of feminine and masculine energy.

For example, your Sun sign might be a masculine sign but your Moon, Rising, Venus, Mercury and other planets may be in feminine signs.

In the same way that you might have an elemental lack, because you lack any of a particular element in your chart, you can be overall more masculine or feminine.

Francesca said: “Masculine signs are earth and air and the feminine signs are earth and water.

“It’s basically yin and yang, positive and negative, introvert and extrovert.

“Everything in nature has duality.

“Sagittarius and Aquarius are masculine signs and they are both extroverted.

“They say what they think and are very out there, ambitious, active, and dynamic.”

Masculine signs are more prone to radical change and dramatics.

They are concerned with identity, intellect, and making things happen.
