Meghan Markle and Harry refusing to reveal godparents but here are 7 contenders

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have decided they won't be revealing the identity of Archie's godparents – but that won't stop speculation as to who it might be.

The couple of have attracted criticism for the decision to keep the godparents secret, adding to the backlash they face for funding £2.4m renovations to their home with tax payers' cash.

Baby Sussex will be christened on Saturday, with around 25 guests expected to attend the ceremony.

Prince Charles and Camilla will be there, along with Harry's brother William and Kate Middleton.

There are thought to be seven potential contenders for the position of godparents, and here we look at who they might be.

The Hollywood couple

Actor George Clooney and his British wife Amal attended Harry and Meghan's wedding and are close pals with the couple.

The 58 year old actor and his 41 year-old partner live in Sonning-on-Thames, Berkshire, with their twins Ella and Alexander.

The TV queen

Billionaire TV chat show host Oprah Winfrey has been an ardent supporter of Meghan and is thought to be in the running for becoming Baby Sussex's godmother.

The 65-year-old  has also been spoken of as a future contender for the US presidency, though she denies she is interested in taking on the top job.

The fashion guru

Canadian fashion stylist Jessica Mulroney is one of Meghan's closest friends.

The 39-year-old has three children of her own with TV host husband Brian.

The schoolmate

Charlie van Straubenzee became pals with Harry at Ludgrove Prep School.

The matchmaker

Misha Nonoo reportedly set Meghan up with the prince and now has a chance of playing a major role in Baby Sussex's life.

The fashion designer moved to the UK when she was 11 and now lives in New York. 

The confidante

Harry's trusted friend Mark Dyer is a former Welsh Guards officer.

The former royal equerry has worked for Prince Charles and provided support to the brothers after Diana's death.
