'Million Dollar Listing New York' Just Dropped This Huge Casting Bombshell

After months of waiting (and two new babies to the cast), Million Dollar Listing New York returns on August 1. This time with an even bigger surprise.

Even though he walked away from a successful business as a real estate broker, Luis D. Ortiz is back on the show. And he seems to once again be tearing it up on the New York City real estate landscape.

The trailer shows the typical fast-paced environment. Brokers and new dads Fredrik Eklund, Steve Gold, and Ryan Serhant are still main cast members. But Bravo snuck in Ortiz’s return. And fans are probably going wild.

He seems to be on his game

The trailer shows Ortiz as his same energetic self, ready to get the sale done. Plus he’s back with his longtime assistant, Ronita Kalra. She exclaims, “Oh my God,” as Ortiz walks through the door. “I’m back,” Ortiz says grinning from ear to ear.

Indeed he appears to be crushing too, showing luxury multi-million dollar dwellings with his signature style. “Back into business,” he says in the trailer. He adds at the end of the trailer that it is nice to be back.

Even though the two-some are back together, Kalra reminds Ortiz she wants more of a voice at the company. And while he is shown walking away, the rest of the cast reminds viewers of the intense stress the job presents. Serhant is seen almost in tears talking to his wife about how the market is crashing. A new (young) agent is also nipping at the guys’ heels, which certainly brings additional drama to the show.

Ortiz walked away but struggled

While his departure from the show in 2016 was an entry into finding himself, Ortiz says he ended up in a dark place. He fought depression and had suicidal thoughts.

In 2018 he posted about dealing with depression and suicide after the suicides of Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade. He has since deleted his account, but at the time wrote,  “For the past year I have been struggling with depression and during the last three months all I can think of—day and night—is putting an end to it all,” E News reports.

His post addressed that some people are really struggling and friends and family should embrace and support those going through tough times. Ortiz also wrote that he’s been working to find the light and happiness once again too. “I am still there with the desire of slowly eradicating this bullsh-t— (definitely temporary) mindset of mine and start creating something extraordinary as a result.”

He’s smelling the roses

Although Ortiz deleted his Instagram account, he still maintains a Twitter presence. While he isn’t very active on social media, he has dropped a few clues that point to his healing in progress.

His latest tweet is a picture of vibrant flowers, showing show Spring has sprung. This tweet came after months of being off of social media. In February he tweeted about learning to deal with depression and recovery. “Tough to talk about your struggles while going through them. Easy once you’ve overcome them,” he wrote. Trying to get better at that.”

Tune into Bravo to see Ortiz’s triumphant return and the entire cast. Million Dollar Listing New York airs August 1 at 9/8c.
