My broke son is being fleeced for money by a woman he barely knows | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: MY son is being fleeced for money by a woman he barely knows and now he’s broke after giving her so much cash.

He has resorted to borrowing from his dad, his brothers and even one of his cousins – and hasn’t paid them back.

I am his 70-year-old mum and my son is 50. He met this woman five months ago. She works part-time in the shopping mall where my son is a security guard.

Every time the woman calls or texts him, it means she wants to meet him for money. He gives it to her every time.

She makes up excuses saying it’s to pay bills or buy food but if she’s not working, she’s in bed all day. I am at the end of my tether.

My son says he doesn’t like to let her down. I’ve told him he is going to end up in a lot of debt if he’s not careful.

Last week he walked out on me when I told him off. I don’t know what else to do.

DEIDRE SAYS: You cannot make your son see sense, nor can you protect him from his own mistakes.

But do repeat how worried you are about him.

Ultimately your child is an adult and should be responsible for his actions.

Try to remain matter-of-fact rather than telling him off, which will only shut him down.
