A woman left TikTok users in hysterics after claiming her pet cat was "slut shamed" by a vet because he was diagnosed with herpes.

Abi, who posts as @zerbeabigail, shared a video of her ginger cat named Tigger claiming that he was very upset by the news.

In the video, which has gained more than 1.3million likes, Abi wrote: "Tigger has herpes – feline herpes. The vet slut shamed him and it made him sad."

Naturally, social media users couldn't control their laughter at the situation and many cat owners took to the comments to make light of the situation.

One user quipped: "I mean, at least he found someone."

Another added: "Tell me why i laughed at this two days ago and my cat was also slut-shamed yesterday, he was just a kitten he couldn’t help it."

A third wrote: "It's okay it happens to the best of us."

A fourth joked: "Has he been responsible and notified all previous partners."

However, one user rightly pointed out that feline herpes isn't an STI, writing: "Vet here – feline herpes is a respiratory infection NOT STI some cats can have bad infections but most just get conjunctivitis and nasal discharge."

Another said: "It's just like a cold for cats."

The condition, which is known as feline viral rhinotracheitis (FVR), is an infectious disease caused by feline herpesvirus type-1 and it is spread in saliva and in discharges from the eyes and nose of an infected cat.

Cats can even contract the infection from coming into contact with surfaces and clothing that have been contaminated by an infected pet.

The virus is contagious to other cats for 10 to 20 days once the pet is infected and is treated symptomatically when the condition flares up, similar to humans with herpes.
