My girlfriend dumped me because I was angry about other men liking her pics

DEAR DEIDRE:  MY girlfriend, a nurse, posted on social media that we split up because I was angry over a few guys liking a photo of her face.

The picture showed her face was sore from wearing a protective mask while treating coronavirus patients.

I have been slaughtered on social media since but she lied about the reason behind our split. We were together for a year but I got uncomfortable early on at the male presence on her social media accounts.

I am 31 and she is 29. She is very attractive and the type of photos she posts regularly get attention. She is always dressed in low-cut tops or shirts which are practically unbuttoned.

I think it is fine if you are single but she was doing it throughout our relationship, knowing the attention it would attract.

She told me she never responded to anyone, other than saying, “Sorry, I have a boyfriend,” but I don’t know for sure. It ate me alive that these guys were all looking at her in that way.

I couldn’t come to terms with it so I ended our relationship but I can’t get over her slagging me off.

DEIDRE SAYS: She made you uneasy and it does sound like she enjoys the attention but that doesn’t make her a cheat.

She may suffer from low self-esteem and maybe you were jealous of the attention she was getting.

It is hurtful that she has lied about the reason behind the split but she wants to come across as the injured party and without blame.

You will sound sour if you try to set the record straight so cut your losses, learn from this experience and move on.

If you now realise your jealousy at least partly led to the split, my e-leaflet Dealing With Jealousy can help.
