No matter what I do I still feel so guilty for breaking my ex’s heart | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: DESPITE splitting up more than six months ago, I’m still riddled with guilt over breaking my ex’s heart.

While it was obvious that we weren’t right for each other, ending things was hard and I know he was absolutely shattered.

He’s 37, I’m 34 and we were together for three years.

To this day, he is one of the best boyfriends I’ve ever had. He always made an effort and did everything he could to make me feel loved.

However, over time it became apparent how different we were.

He wanted to settle down and start a family, but I didn’t. Making the break was difficult and, while I knew he understood, I could tell how hurt he was.

I still see him regularly as he lives near me, but he looks unkempt and low, which is not like him. I feel terrible.

DEIDRE SAYS: It is normal to feel this way after a relationship ends.

You cared for this person so it is understandable that you are feeling guilty. But you did nothing wrong.

Even though it is hard to see someone you once loved struggle, you made the right choice by ending a relationship that wasn’t working.

Remind yourself that you did what was best for both of you.

If you are on good terms and  think he may be depressed, encourage him to see his GP. My support pack Feeling Guilty will help.
