One million to get another £100 in new cost of living energy bill help | The Sun

ONE million Brits using heating oil will get another £100 extra cash help with their bills this winter.

It comes on top of the £100 already revealed for homes which don't benefit from the energy price cap, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt revealed.

More than 1.6million homes are thought to currently rely on heating oil.

The help will last until April, after which it will be tapered back thanks to the huge cost of helping millions pay their spiralling bills.

The Chancellor said today: "For those households who use alternative fuels such as heating oil and LPG to heat their homes, I am today doubling the amount of support from £100 to £200, which will be delivered as soon as possible this winter.

"Before the end of this year, we will also bring forward a new targeted approach to support businesses from next April."

For most Brits on gas and electricity metres, the government will still subsidise some of their bills but not all.

The average annual bill will rise from £2,500 to £3,000 in April.

While a hike, it is still much less than the £3,700 forecast by Ofgem if there was no cap in place.
