Plotlines: Clivia festa a colour extravaganza

The Melbourne Clivia Group, which extols the virtues of all six species and thousands of hybrids of the clivia, holds its annual expo next Saturday (September 21) from 10am to 4pm, with a $5 entry fee. The expo will include displays, demonstrations and sales of this shade-tolerant South African plant that, come this time of year, sports sunny umbels of bell-shaped flowers. Plant sales, a propagation workshop and gardening talks are all part of this weekend’s Australian Plants Expo in Eltham. Hosted by the Australian Plants Society Yarra Yarra group, the event runs from 10am to 4pm today and tomorrow at the Eltham Community and Reception Centre, 801 Main Road Eltham, $5. Spring in the air: the Tesselaar Tulip Festival
It will be flowering bulbs as far as the eye can see at the Tesselaar Tulip Festival that features more than 900,000 tulips and starts today. The festival, which spreads over almost five hectares, runs from 10am to 5pm daily until October 13, at 357-359 Monbulk Road, Silvan. Entry is $29 entry with under 16s free. Surf Coast Tour
Both private gardens and natural landscapes will be visited in a Surf Coast tour being run later this month. Garden designer Peter Shaw will lead the tour and his own Anglesea garden is one of the stops.
