Superdrug has made a massive change – and shoppers are furious | The Sun

SUPERDRUG has announced a big change to its bags – and it's left shoppers furious.

The health and beauty chain has started charging 15p for paper bags across its stores.

It hasn't confirmed which specific outlets, or when the price change came into effect.

All retailers have to charge customers a minimum 10p for plastic bags.

It's a way of encouraging shoppers to bring their own and reduce the impact on the environment.

But Superdrug customers have been left stunned after it decided to start charging for paper ones too.

Another said: "Why are you charging your customers for a paper bag?"

Meanwhile, a third person added: "Why are you charging 15p for a paper bag that I can't reuse?"

A Superdrug spokesperson said: "Our commitment to sustainability means we want to avoid the use of plastic and paper bags becoming a single use item and having a significant environmental impact.

Since May 21, 2021, all retailers in England have had to charge a minimum 10p for single-use carrier bags.

You can be fined up to £200 if you do not.

But some supermarkets and retailers have implemented their own policies on top of the minimum levy.

For example, in July 2022, Home Bargains upped the price of its bags from 10p to 15p.

In the same year, Tesco and Sainsbury's increased the prices of their bags for life.
