Woman accused of ‘force feeding’ child ‘spicy ethnic food’ in neighbour row

A South Asian woman has revealed that she was shocked when her neighbour accused her of forcing her son eat “ethnic food”.

The argument happened after the mother, dubbed Linda, asked her to look after her seven year old while she attended a meeting.

Linda dropped the child off and gave the babysitter a packed lunch for her little boy to eat which contained a vegetable sandwich and orange juice.

She also asked that he not be given any sweets and warned the woman that he was allergic to almonds, reports Indy100.

In a Reddit post, the volunteer childminder explained that she had also cooked up her own lunch of roti and brinjal sabzi – an aubergine curry made with tomatoes, onions and spices.

The woman said that the little boy asked to “take a bite” of her meal and she allowed him to.

She added: “He ended up loving it and ate two rotis.

“I was happy to see him gulp all that up but unfortunately, he was full from the rotis so he barely ate his sandwich.”

When Linda picked up her son all was well, but she returned soon after and seemed “pretty mad”.

She reportedly said that her neighbour had “no right to feed her son ethnic food, adding: ‘God knows what’s in it.’”

The neighbour wrote: “She said that she was trying to transition her son into the vegan lifestyle and I just sabotaged it from giving him food she has never even heard off.

“I tried explaining to her that what he ate is completely vegan-friendly and is very healthy and, needless to say, yummy or else Ben wouldn’t have (eaten) it all by himself.

“But she was in no mood to listen.”

She continued: “(Linda) was saying something about how my food would have been so spicy that it could cause her son to fall sick.

“I am worried now. I felt that Ben enjoyed his lunch and he never complained about it being spicy and all but could he really fall sick?”

The poster said that Linda had called her an “a**hole” for feeding her child without her permission.

She added: “I kind of feel like one.

“Am I though?”

The post went viral with thousands of Redditors giving their take on the situation.

One person noted: “If this had been about trying to convert her son to veganism (which is already an a**hole move on her part if her son doesn’t want to be vegan), then she would have dropped it when she found out that the dish was vegan friendly.

“Instead, she kept complaining because it was scary FOREIGN food.”
