Woman scolds fellow mum for sending son to birthday party as ballerina

Woman who sent her son to a ‘ballerina and pirates’ party in a leotard and tights is blasted by child’s mother for ‘not sticking to the theme’ – as fellow parents say he must have ‘stolen the birthday girl’s thunder’

  • Mother sent her son to a ‘ballerina and pirates’ party dressed as a dancer
  • She received a text from the birthday girl’s mother claiming it was not ‘in theme’
  • The boy’s mother was left confused and took to Mumsnet to ask for advice
  • Users said the girl’s mother might have thought her daughter had been upstaged

A woman was criticised by a fellow parent for sending her son to a ‘ballerina and pirates’ party dressed in a leotard and tights.

The British mother explained in a Mumsnet post that the birthday girl’s mother later sent her an expletive-ridden text, accusing her of not ‘sticking to the theme’.

Seeking advice, the boy’s mother asked if she was being unreasonable in taking offence to the foul-mouthed message.

Other users were quick to reassure the woman that she was not being unreasonable and explained the birthday girl’s mother perhaps thought the boy had stolen her daughter’s thunder.

The British mother explained in a Mumsnet post (pictured) that the birthday girl’s mother later sent her an expletive-ridden text, accusing her of not ‘sticking to the theme’

Explaining the situation, the boy’s mother wrote: ‘I sent DS as a ballet dancer (as he does dancing), in his usual leotard, shorts, tights and ballet slippers. It’s a very friendly community and no ‘sissy’ comments or opinions as far as I know.

‘DS got nothing but compliments from other parents, children were just excited to see him and no child commented on his outfit.’

But the disgruntled mother said that just 10 minutes later she received an unsavoury message from the party host, the birthday girl’s mum.

She said the message read: ‘So! You really had to put Joseph in something else didn’t you! Why couldn’t you stick to the theme? I think it’s just unfair, if I’m honest. Not impressed. You aren’t f****** sane.’

Her post garnered over 600 responses, seemingly unanimous in support for her.

One wrote: ‘That is very unkind. I wouldn’t dignify it with an answer and just blank her from now on.’

Another wrote: ‘It’s impossible to reason with stupid people so I would just ignore the message. She’s clearly being an idiot here.’

A third offered: ‘Oh dear. Your son stole her daughter’s compliments. Had he turned up as a pirate he’d have received far fewer compliments, and her daughter would have received more. In her daft opinion.’

Parents questioned whether the girl’s mother maybe thought it was ‘attention seeking’ for him to dress as a dancer
