According Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, the forward, also known as Gabigol, will complete a permanent move the South American champions in a 18m euro deal.

  • ED-ING OUT

Edinson Cavani has been left out of the Paris Saint-Germain squad for Sunday night's game with Lille.

The Uruguayan is at the centre of a transfer saga with Chelsea, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid all vying for his signature.

And amid all the speculation surrounding his future, Thomas Tuchel confirmed Cavani would not be involved at Lille.

The PSG boss said: “It’s a little bit the same thing with Edi.

“He has been training with us for the past few days, but the situation is not clear for him either.

“And for that, he will not be available for tomorrow.”

Cavani, 32, has not played since January 12 and has just one goal since August 18, coming in the 5-0 thrashing of Galatasaray in December.

  • WAGING WAR

Edinson Cavani could join Chelsea as Atletico Madrid are struggling to comply with La Liga's salary cap.

Gabriele Marcotti told the Transfer Talk podcast: “You’ve got a tall, mobile, athletic striker. He turns 33 years old on Valentine’s Day, that’s the reality of it.

“So you’re kind of mad to give him anything more, in my opinion, than two-and-a-half years, max.

“Paris Saint-Germain say that they’re holding out for, what is it, €12m-€15m, €20m that they want.

“It seems like a ton of money given that he’s going to walk on a free at the end of the season.

“So it’s kind of like a game of chicken going on there. He was going to go to Atletico Madrid, as we know Atletico Madrid have serious issues obviously with the salary cap in La Liga, they have to move other players out.

“I don’t think he’d be a bad option for Chelsea.

“In fact I was speaking with a former Chelsea executive who made the point that Tammy Abraham is phenomenal but he’s played so much football.

“He’s carrying so much pressure. Maybe an impact striker, who could score goals regularly for you, take some of the pressure off him, allow him to grow and develop so that he could come back stronger and once again be the No 1 striker next year, would make sense.”

  • AVERAGE JOE

Joe Cole bemoaned Chelsea's lack of ruthlessness after the club's 2-1 Fa Cup win over Hull City.

He told BT Sport: “Frank was nervous at the end there. Time and time again they don’t put games to bed quick enough.

“Lampard wants to get Chelsea to a certain standard. They are better than that. They should have been 3-0 or 4-0 up The great Chelsea sides would have done that.

“To get back to that standard you need to be honest with yourselves as a team.”
